SHAD Top Case for KLR650

Here's a real find! High-quality, universal fit, lockable, quick-detachable topcases that are priced right! You may not know the brand name SHAD but you will. Their products are 100% designed and built in Europe to ISO 9001 criteria for the demanding European motorcycling community. They feature a very rugged, high-quality matte finish and can be locked closed or removed from the included base mounting plate with a touch of the release latch. The base plate includes hardware to attach to existing tubular cargo racks or flat OEM cargo plates such as found on the V-Strom.

Available in three sizes, 26, 33 and 49 liters. The small 26 liter overall size is 15.9 x 15.7 x 11.1 inches. The large 33 liter overall size is 16.5 x 16.9 x 12.2 inches. The extra-large 49 liter overall size is 23 x 18 x 12 inches. An optional back rest is available to purchase separately (Order Code VSTCB) for the large and extra-large sized top case, and an optional mouting plate brake light is available for the extra-large case only.

The included base plate features hardware to attach to existing tubular cargo racks or flat OEM cargo plates such as found on the KLR 650. For mounting to flat plates like the KLR and 'Strom, you will need to drill four holes in the OEM plate to attach the SHAD mounting plate. The easiest way to do this is to remove your OEM plate and decide how to drill and mount the two together, off the bike. Available in two sizes, 26 and 33 liters. The small 26 liter overall size is 15.9 x 15.7 x 11.1 inches. The large 33 liter overall size is 16.5 x 16.9 x 12.2 inches and features a much wider red section on the rear.

Please understand SHAD topcases are very high quality universal application topcases. There is a little bit of workshop time required to install one. All you need to do is to attach the included SHAD quick release base plate to your bike's factory cargo rack or plate with the included hardware. For a smooth surface plate such as found on the KLR650 and V-Strom you will need to bolt the SHAD base plate to your OEM rack. This generally involves removing the OEM cargo rack (easy to do) and drilling a few holes in the OEM rack and then bolting the SHAD rack in place. It's a simple job and need be done only once. If your bike has a tubular rear rack, it's even easier. Included are some high quality W-shaped clips which engage the rack tubes for a super fast and secure mounting arrangement with no drilling or welding required.

Please note the current stock of the smaller case features a silver (clear with silver backing) accent trim where the original shipments featured red (transparent red with white backing). In either event, neither the red nor the silver are retro-reflective. You can however remove the trim piece by taking out two screws from the inside of the case. If you like, you could then place some reflective tape under the clear or red "lens" and reinstall. Just so you know.
