Listen up, KLR650 (new E-model) riders! You don't quite have everything in the factory tool kit that you need to remove and install the front wheel. We found out the hard way that it's much easier and safer to have a 14mm hex (Allen) wrench for the front axle bolt head. Here's a beast of a 14mm hex wrench from the master tool makers at Park Tool USA. Buy one and you will eventually be glad you did.
To be fair, this is a big, herky Allen wrench at about 10-5/8 inches long. Depending on your luggage situation, you may not want to carry it with you on the bike. However, we chopped off an inch or two off of ours for use as the "road and trail tool" to stash on the bike. Pop this short piece of 14mm stock into the bolt head and operate it with a 14mm box wrench which you have with you at all times, right? The remainder of the wrench is still perfectly good in the workshop after dressing up the edge of the cut with a file or grinding wheel.
