Invented by a pioneer in the medical industry, the technology used in the Airhawk seat cushions was originally developed to prevent pressure injuries in patients who were bedridden or confined to a wheelchair. By using interconnected polyurethane air cells, the Airhawk cushion can adapt to your individual contours and distribute pressure evenly over the largest possible area. The removable 3-layer knit polyester cover also eliminates the damaging shear forces common to regular seats and pads.
The AirHawk R series, in particular, has been strategically designed not only for maximum comfort, but also for issues like prostatitis as well as general discomfort in the sacrum and coccyx by incorporating a cutout area that runs down the center of the cushion from front to back to reduce contact and eliminate pressure points. The tailbone relief area in the back has a tapered transition for increased comfort. The front has a cutaway that eliminates contact for sensitive areas, as well as providing an improved fit on the bike. A redesigned cell geometry also improves airflow under the rider. All this makes for a wicked comfortable seat cushion that will extend your riding time and fit even the widest saddles or derrieres.
The fluid-proof, no skid base on the underside of the pad sits securely on top of your saddle and does come with attachment loops. Although the Airhawk pad doesn't need more than about a half an inch of air, it will add some height to your seat.
